Marriage: Weekly Discussions (Week 9 & 10)

So sorry! We combined two weeks because we have been CRAZY busy starting our new business (don’t worry you will hear all about it soon)!

Roses & Thorns:

Jon:

  • Rose – The small business orientation because we got a lot of information and began the process of starting our business.
  • Thorn – I have been extra tired which lead me to be extra irritable.

Angie:

  • Rose – Kick starting our business and taking the steps to getting things going.
  • Thorn – Feeling overwhelmed and not feeling like I had a good organizational systems in place to eliminate that stress.

Weekly Discussion Topic/Question:  What are some words that describe marriage?  What makes a marriage different from any other relationship?

Jon:  Fun, team, goals, trust and love.

Angie:  Love, intimacy, commitment, team, compromise.

We both agreed that marriage is a different type of love, commitment and that love is finding your other half.  The one whom your soul cannot live without.

Devotional/Book Reading: Sharing the Goal taken from Gary Chapman’s The One Year Love Language Minute Devotional

At last the wall was completed to half its height around the entire city, for the people had worked with enthusiasm. – Nehemiah 4:6

Synopsis: This reading explains that a couple should have goals and do what it takes to achieve those goals together.  It is important that each person in relationship contribute to those goals and that the division of labor be equal.  In essence we must each do our part.

Our takeaway:  We agreed with the point of the reading.  This is something in our personal relationship that we have worked on recently.  Our goals have been defined and we both play an equal role in accomplishing those goals.  We believe that because we have put in the work to iron out the kinks of this in our personal relationship that our business relationship and the division in tasks in that situation have developed much more smoothly.

If you are having trouble dividing tasks it may be easier to start with the goal in mind.  Hash out your goals and then figure out what it will take to get to those goals.  Once you have your list, then decide how those tasks should be divided.

Please share your rose and thorn for the week!  What goals do you have?  How do you divide tasks?  Do you have any advice for others?
